Welcome to the

Translational Mood Disorder Therapeutics

About Us

Our laboratory uses genetic, behavioral, pharmacological, electrophysiological, and photometric approaches to investigate the pathophysiology of mood disorders, as well as novel antidepressant mechanisms of action. The research has a particular focus on the development of improved animal models for applications to psychiatry, the functional consequences of mood disorder susceptibility genes, and collaborative translational studies with clinically focused research groups. We aim to further understand the underlying causes of mood disorders, and to assess the feasibility of novel treatment strategies. We anticipate that an improved understanding of the underlying biology of mood disorders may lead to earlier interventions and new treatments that will benefit those suffering from these diseases. Read about how the Gould Lab aims to improve treatments for mood-related conditions with the support of the Harrington Discovery Institute and the Veterans Administration.
